As Europe’s digital regulatory landscape continues to evolve and customers place increasing emphasis on suppliers’ cybersecurity capabilities and compliance management, understanding regulatory requirements, strengthening collaborations across functions, and effectively addressing customer concerns have become increasingly important to sound business operations.

On October 20–21, Dahua Technology’s EU Compliance Synergy Group held its first in-person workshop in the Netherlands, bringing together legal and compliance, product and solution, cybersecurity, PR and marketing teams from across Europe, who delivered training sessions to share insights from their perspective fields with the wider team.

Understanding the Evolving European Regulatory Landscape

The workshop examined key European regulations, including the EU AI Act, Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and NIS2 Directive, with discussions covering relevant requirements, implementation timelines, and potential implications for businesses. Legal experts from international law firm Bird & Bird provided an overview of the evolving EU regulatory landscape and discussed questions relevant to technology suppliers and their customers. Participants also explored customer security due diligence and public procurement considerations across European markets. These discussions helped clarify the types of questions customers may face when assessing technology suppliers and the information they may need to evaluate relevant cybersecurity and compliance considerations.

The workshop also addressed external communication on compliance-related topics, drawing on practical examples from the UK. The discussion highlighted the importance of providing clear, accurate, and consistent information when responding to customer questions about regulatory requirements and cybersecurity practices.

Cybersecurity Management and Vulnerability Handling in Practice

Alongside the regulatory requirements, experts from Dahua Cybersecurity Institute shared the company's existing cybersecurity and compliance practices, including its approach to security management, risk management, and data protection throughout the data processing lifecycle.

At the product level, Dahua has established corporate security and privacy baselines that are regularly reviewed and updated with reference to relevant international and European standards, including EN 303 645 and EN 18031. The cybersecurity team also shared how security and privacy considerations are incorporated into product design and development. Discussions explored how these practices can support assessments of relevant regulatory requirements, depending on the product, application and organizational role.

Dahua has obtained ISO 27001 certification for its information security management system, as well as certifications related to vulnerability disclosure and handling under ISO/IEC 29147 and ISO/IEC 30111. These standards address important aspects of vulnerability management, from disclosing vulnerability information to establishing processes for handling reported vulnerabilities.

Dahua has also established a dedicated Trust Center on its global website, bringing together information and resources on cybersecurity, transparency, privacy protection, vulnerability reporting and response, and related updates. By making information about its cybersecurity practices, certifications, and vulnerability management processes publicly accessible, Dahua aims to help customers and partners better understand its approach and support more informed discussions during supplier assessments, while reinforcing confidence in its product security and vulnerability management.

Exploring Compliance Considerations Through Practical Scenarios

Moving beyond regulatory interpretation, participants worked through a common framework for identifying compliance considerations in practical scenarios, using a smart retail use case as the worked example. The discussions focused on how relevant requirements should be considered in the context of specific business applications, helping connect regulatory principles with the questions customers may raise when evaluating technology solutions.

The workshop also helped identify priorities for the group’s 2027 action plan, providing a basis for continued work on customer guidance and the practical application of compliance requirements across European markets.

These efforts aim to help customers navigate compliance-related discussions with more relevant information and a clearer understanding of the considerations associated with their specific applications. As requirements can vary by sector, use case, and national implementation, practical guidance can support customer assessments while allowing individual obligations to be evaluated in the appropriate context.

Supporting Customers and Sustainable Business Development

The workshop marks an important step in Dahua’s ongoing efforts to support customers and partners in navigating Europe’s evolving compliance and cybersecurity landscape. By bringing together regulatory expertise, cybersecurity practices, and practical business scenarios, the discussions helped identify ways to address customer concerns and provide clearer, more consistent guidance across European markets.

Looking ahead, Dahua will continue to strengthen cross-regional and cross-functional collaboration while embedding compliance considerations into its product and business practices. Through ongoing knowledge sharing, improved risk management, and more effective customer communication, Dahua aims to help customers better understand and address compliance challenges, while supporting responsible business operations and the company’s sustainable, long-term development in Europe.
